PHP and IOP Sober Living for Men Near Philadelphia: How Provive Wellness and Tranquil Ways Work Together

Men's sober living Malvern PA near Philadelphia

Finding the right combination of clinical treatment and stable housing is one of the biggest challenges men face in early recovery. Most programs make you figure it out separately — find a therapist, find an IOP, find housing, coordinate it all yourself. At Tranquil Ways, we’ve built the solution: our Devon and Malvern men’s homes on Philadelphia’s Main Line operate directly alongside Provive Wellness Pennsylvania, giving men one integrated program that covers everything.

Understanding the Levels of Care

According to ASAM’s continuum of care criteria, addiction treatment progresses through distinct levels based on clinical need. The two most relevant for Tranquil Ways residents are:

  • PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program) — Typically 5–6 hours of structured clinical programming per day, 5 days a week. The highest outpatient level of care, appropriate for men who need intensive daily structure but don’t require 24-hour supervision. Residents in PHP at Provive come home to Tranquil Ways each evening.
  • IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) — The step down from PHP, typically 9+ hours per week. Men who have stabilized at PHP level continue in the same Tranquil Ways home as they transition to IOP, maintaining the consistency that’s critical for recovery.

Many men enter Tranquil Ways at the PHP level and step down to IOP without ever changing their home. The clinical intensity changes; the stability doesn’t. That’s the design.

What Provive Wellness PA Provides

Provive Wellness Pennsylvania delivers evidence-based, outcome-focused treatment for substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Their team provides individualized treatment planning, individual and group therapy, and clinical programming designed around each patient’s specific needs and goals — not a one-size-fits-all protocol.

The Provive and Tranquil Ways relationship is tight by design. When a man is in treatment at Provive and living at one of our homes, the clinical team and the housing team are in communication. The recovery environment supports the treatment. The treatment supports the recovery environment. This is what real continuity of care looks like.

PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program) is higher intensity — typically 5–6 hours/day, 5 days/week. IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) is the step down, at 9+ hours per week. Per ASAM criteria, both are outpatient levels of care. Many Tranquil Ways residents begin at PHP and step down to IOP without changing homes.

Do I have to be enrolled at Provive to live at Tranquil Ways?

Yes — our Devon and Malvern homes are for men in active PHP or IOP treatment at Provive Wellness PA. If you’re not yet enrolled, we can help coordinate both together.

What does housing cost for PHP patients with insurance?

For men in PHP with active insurance coverage, housing costs can vary significantly and may be far lower than you expect. Call us at (610) 472-9101 to have that conversation — don’t rule yourself out before you call.

Where are the homes located?

Our two Main Line men’s homes are in Devon and Malvern, PA — both in Chester County, approximately 20–25 miles west of Philadelphia.
